The mobile phone is steadily outpacing the traditional desktop as the de-facto internet access point. In the next few years you will see a lot more applications, beyond the simple email coming to your phone. Most voice only phones will be replaced by embedded networked devices. The data transport bandwidth on the phone will increase and hopefully we will see some progress in cross platform portability, which remains the biggest concern on date.
At Saven, we started creating mobile applications back in the end 90s. Serious mobile development, unlike much of web development, is about native application development. Browser based web applications are way below expectations in many cases even today, when full blown browsers have started appearing on the devices.
